consumer electronics, consumer complaints

You know, I used to get upset about how quickly consumer electronics became obsolete. But, not that I understand that technology is exploding exponentially, it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still upset that I have to replace consumer electronics on a regular basis, but at least now I understand why.

The development end of technology is moving (in product development, processor speed, and design) so rapidly that truly what you bought yesterday is already obsolete. It's amazing, but it's true.

And, by the way, who would want to return to computers that filled entire rooms, or computers that had to be fed punch cards? Also, who would want to return to computers with small hard drives and monitors that weighed more than a couple of bowling balls? I think you're getting the picture.

The development just keeps refining consumer electronics and, regardless of the consumer complaints, newer really is better, faster, and more efficient.

So, if you're going to keep purchasing consumer electronics, just realize that you'll have to keep replacing your consumer electronics purchases on a regular basis--that's what exponential growth is all about.
